The Emergency Services Division is the primary liaison between St. Mary’s County Government, Fire Departments and Rescue Squads, St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office and the Maryland State Police.

Fire & EMS Cadet Program

Program Guidelines

The program is available to high school juniors and seniors who are at least 16 years old by September 1st.

Students must have at least a 2.0 GPA to enroll in the program and must maintain at least a 2.0 GPA during the program.

Students are required to obtain and maintain membership at a volunteer fire department or rescue squad while enrolled in the program.

The program is held at Hollywood Volunteer Fire Department. Transportation to and from the fire department is provided FREE of charge!

After emailing the online application, students are contacted by the St. Mary’s County Government Fire & EMS Recruitment Coordinator.

The Coordinator collaborates with St. Mary’s County Public Schools to ensure the student has met academic criteria to participate in the program.

The Coordinator is available to assist students in becoming a member of a Fire Department or Rescue Squad to meet program requirements.
