The St. Mary’s County Commission for Women (CFW) was created by St. Mary’s County Commissioners to address matters of specific concern to women in the areas of employment, education, health, public office, family, and legal rights. The CFW holds an annual Women’s History Month Celebration in March to celebrate Women’s History Month, recognize the many accomplished women volunteers in our community, and raise funds for the College of Southern Maryland’s Jane Hale-Sypher scholarship. In order to ensure safe social distancing, our event will be a hybrid event broadcasted from the St. Mary’s County Commissioners Meeting Room on March 24, 2022 at 6pm. Please join us in celebrating the amazing women in our community by nominating a young woman, in grades 9 through 12, for our Tomorrow’s Woman Award, nominating a woman for our Woman of the Year Award, or becoming a sponsor of our event!

Tomorrow's Woman Award

This award honors an extraordinary young woman from St. Mary’s County in grades 9 through 12 who has demonstrated an exceptional commitment to community service. We invite schools, organizations, and individuals to nominate a young woman who has made a difference in the lives of others in their schools and community. Please Note: The nominee’s service must relate to voluntary work or extracurricular school activities.

Woman of the Year Award

This award honors an exceptional woman from St. Mary’s County who has demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to community service. We invite organizations and individuals to nominate a woman who has made a difference in the lives of others in our community. Please Note: The nominee’s service must be performed outside of the context of her paid employment.

Judging Process

  1. An independent selection committee will review each application.
  2. The judging process will only consider the completed nomination form and any supporting documents submitted with the form.
  3. The winner will be announced during the Women’s History Month Celebration.
  4. Excerpts from the nomination form may be used for remarks during the celebration and may also be printed in the event program.
