Liza Recto, race director and president of the Chesapeake Bay
Running Club, used a bull horn to assemble the runners to the
starting line at the Paul
Hall Center in Piney Point, MD. St. Mary's County Commissioner
President Thomas F. McKay, Jr. goodheartedly offers to start the
race as the
Unofficial 10 Minute Pace Captain.

Water stations were set up along the
26.2 mile course providing runners with water, sports drinks, and
carb loading gummy bears. Volunteers Mark Markovich, Courtney Igoe
and Sarah Massie man the water station at the Piney Point Lighthouse
where they not only handed out refreshments but offered runner's
enthusiastic cheers of support. |

About 300 runners came from all over the
United States to participate in the Lower Potomac
River Marathon, a qualifying race for the prestigious Boston
Marathon. Here the runners have
made there way from the Paul Center for Maritime Training and Education to
St. George Island. |

Local resident Robin (Cullins) Richards
crosses the
finish line to complete her very first marathon. She is
greeted by her mom (Kim Cullins), husband Matt, sister Leah,
and cousin Jenna. Dubbing themselves Team Richards,
Robin's family, wearing yellow t-shirts inscribed with "Robin's
Rowdies,"
provided moral support for her all through the race route. |
