Human Services - After School Programs

Working in partnership with St. Mary’s County Public Schools to provide after school programs to children and families within St. Mary’s County. Current programs include:

  • “Leaders are Readers” at Great Mills High School and Greenview Knolls Elementary School.

  • “Credit Recovery Program,” an after school program that will allow students who fail the first semester of high school English or math to make up that credit.

  • Great Mills High School Chess Club, which will utilize the funding to provide snacks for program participants.

  • “Scholars, Leaders, Athletes and Gentlemen (SLAG)” and “Girls, Athletes, Leaders and Scholars (GALS)” at Dynard Elementary School.

  • Attendance Mentor and After School Program at Esperanza Middle School.

  • Together with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maryland , St Mary’s County provides “Power Hour” - a comprehensive tutoring program for all members aged 6 to 12 years at Park Hall Elementary and Green Holly Elementary Schools.

  • Working with the Special Olympics to offer Basketball & Aquatics Training. These programs are held in the physical proximity of schools with low attendance percentages, in an effort to provide leadership development and recreational activities for youth with and without intellectual disabilities.
